Life is busy—tasks pile up, work requires our attention, we are always preparing for the next meal—and it is for this reason that every couple of weeks we hold what we call a creative commons (i.e. a space where we spend quality time together, creating art). Expressing oneself creatively is an act we find life-giving. There are certain forms of artistic expression that we are each inclined to. So, we use our creative commons to explore and share with each other various outlets that we find fulfilling. We used our most recent time together to paint.
I rejoice to hear that thou takest pains with thine art, for in this wonderful new age, art is worship. The more thou strivest to perfect it, the closer wilt thou come to God. What bestowal could be greater than this, that one’s art should be even as the act of worshipping the Lord? That is to say, when thy fingers grasp the paintbrush, it is as if thou wert at prayer in the Temple. ~‘Abdu’l-Bahá
We have painted together a few times over the course of our marriage. Every time we paint, we see growth in our ability to work together, to be patient with each other and to see value in each brush stroke and color choice. Below is our most recent painting. We hope you enjoy it. And, we encourage you to take time to express yourself creatively, “as if thou wert at prayer in the Temple.”
