Abstract Art – where it all began

Photography has quickly become one of my passions in life, but before photography there was painting. Beginning at the age of 15 I had an opportunity to serve with an amazing group of youth in the Upper-Midwest of the United States. It was through our summer mural projects that I began to discover my appreciation for abstract art. While each mural carried a themed based on principles such as equality of women and men and freedom from all forms of prejudice, I found myself painting the areas of these murals that required a mixture of color, such as clouds, shadows, and distorted and distant scenes. Now, many years later, painting is more than a summer service project. It is an opportunity to bear witness to an unfolding process of creation and to be a channel for something far greater than one’s self. This is art. And, this is what it means to be an artist. Below are a few of the commissioned works I have been blessed to provide for some exceptional souls over the past several years. I hope you enjoy taking them in.
